Design your own stunt car to leap across a canyon after completing a sharp drop down a ramp.

Round 1:

  • Teams will have to make their cars leap a distance of 20cms and land it safely on the landing ramp across the canyon.
  • Each team will be allowed two attempts to make the jump.

Round 2:

  • Successful teams will move to Round 2 where the width of the canyon will be increased to 30cms and some obstacles will be present between the ramps.

Round 3:

  • Teams who make it to the final round will be asked to jump through 40cms.
  • Moreover the landing ramp will be narrower and surrounded with water on both the sides.
  • Those cars falling in the water will be disqualified.

Rules:

  • Participants have to make their cars run down a ramp which will provide the necessary speed for the jump.
  • Teams can build a launch system to propel the car forward and increase its speed which will help the car to jump over greater distances.
  • Alternatively they can incorporate an in-built mechanism (Coiled spring, stretched rubber band, pressurized air, etc) to propel the car forward. However use of electric motors in the in-built mechanism is forbidden.
  • Teams cannot incorporate both the launch system and the internal propulsion system together.

Dimensions:

  • 40x40cm for the launch mechanism.
  • 20x20cm for the car (for both with or without mechanism)
  • Minimum weight of the car with launch mechanism: 500gm.
  • Minimum weight of the car with internal propulsion mechanism: 750gm.
  • Weight of the launch system and the car combined is maximum 3kg.

This event tests the ability of the participants to design an aerodynamically efficient car and a powerful launch system without using electric motors.

  1. As far as possible, keep the c.g. of the car in the back so that the car doesn’t topple while making the jump.
  2. Keep the car a li’l heavy so that it gains enough momentum to make the jump. A lighter car will face more resistance due to air.
  3. Make sure that the wheels of the car can rotate freely.
  4. Keep the car compact and aerodynamic.
